It was designed to be primarily a solo RPG, so its system could be suitable as a complementary addition to your RPing on server (or even in SP?).
How to marry such a system of mechanics with a video game akin to FL is an open question,
but the main improvement that it could provide is to give guidance, ideas and risk/reward mechanics to you as a player who seeks to RP and lacks new things to try out. I am unable to properly test it now, but I will still leave it here for you to check out.

Chills - The Snub PvP Basics Guide - Video Tutorial Series.

Good evening everyone.

I wanted to post here to share a project I have been working on: The Fighter PvP Basics Guide. This is a series of tutorials I have started recording to share some basic tips on how to fly fighters more effectively in Discovery Freelancer. As most seasoned players know, fighters are by far the most difficult class to fly mechanically, given how quickly they can explode in combat, as well as the high skill-floor required for pilots to hold their own in a PvP situation.

I joined Discovery full-tilt in April of 2023 (despite this account being 4 years old) and I found it extremely difficult to learn the basics in the beginning as there was a lack of material out there for newer players to pick up on. Since joining, I have slowly been able to learn how to fly fighters to a relatively high level within the Discovery community, and I'd like to show other players how to do the same thing.

Some of you know that I am an administrator of the PvP Server, a Discord which aims to train snub pilots and make them more comfortable when entering PvP on the Discovery Server. Below, you'll find a YouTube playlist of all of my tutorials I have uploaded to this point. I am still working on making more. If anyone has suggestions, criticisms, or feedback, please leave them below and I will work on making these better.

Look forward to flying with you all soon.

The Dreadnought Dilemma - the ideal role of heavy caps in disco

Hey again everyone.

I've noticed after my return to disco in late 2022 that heavy caps (carriers, battleships, dreadnoughts, etc.) are more common in the game than ever. With an easier and faster way to make money, many willing to part with their unused toys, and almost a complete lack of restrictions, everyone can quickly get their hands on a heavy cap and roll it out in the next major engagement. With plenty of helpful guides and tips about how to use them effectively, even a newly minted captain can substantially contribute to a fight, event, or siege.

Over time, and especially more recently, I've noticed that a growing number of players have not enjoyed gameplay in which heavy caps are involved. These are still capship enjoyers who like flying cruisers and bcs, but draw the line at bringing more than 2-3 of their heavier cousins to engagements. And yet, many players who are just coming into the game or enjoy playing more casually seem to gravitate towards the firepower and durability that these heavy caps offer. So there seems to be a imbalance between the ideal fleet combat experience for different types of players, which is centered around the massing of heavy caps.

The question is: is this an issue? If so, what should be done about it? And if not, why not?

To start the discussion, I will offer my personal opinion - caps should be a limited resource in some form. They can be as powerful as necessary in terms of mechanical balance, but some sort of inrp limit needs to be placed on their operation, deployment, etc. This would solve the immediate problem of a potential mass of caps making the engagement unfun for a lot of people on both sides. However, this may also result in people losing interest in the game, as flying heavy caps is one of the primary selling points of disco. So if any change in this direction were to occur, it would need to be rolled out slowly and carefully, always paying attention to player feedback.

But enough from me - I'm interested to hear what everyone else has to say!

Hi guys.
Something that came out of the recent event is that people were unsatisfied with some of the PvP engagements they were a part of. And in other cases, no engagement took place at all due to one side deciding not to show up to what looked to be an unfair fight.

I have seen something similar in other cases where sign-ups are not required, such as raids and impromptu pvp. People are either worried that one side of an engagement would be too stacked and don't show up, or they decide that the current fight is already over and pull out.

The examples above are not even talking about another type of balance issue that I'm sure you've seen - different player skill levels. But these two issues (number balance and skill balance) are ultimately tied together, so I think it makes sense to combine them for this discussion.

So my question for you is - is PvP balance a problem? And if it is, how do we solve the problem?

I checked the search function and the last reference to ship restrictions was in 2018. For the Freelancer ID (besides the size restrictions) is there any reason why one couldn't purchase a Liberty gunboat from the Order in Omicron Mu? Are Freelancers restricted to civilian and pirate vessels only?

Thank you in advance.
