Really missing the Vanilla storyline, but if my internet at work will suffice I'd love to play online and RP.

I wrote this tutorial, if you guys would be so neat and install teamviewer and add me on discord Lambda#4249 I could give it a look.
Also, are you trying to play MP or the singleplayer, because the SP won't safe any safefiles, since the safefiles are getting deleted after every restart of the game.

Did you tried replacing the Freelancer.exe in Discovery files? I had also crashses, but it was a vanilla with black screen then descktop, Discovery .exe file fixed it.

Heres one for free, taken from my Discovery directory. If it doesn't work, then I don't know.

Crashes or insta-closes? If you've installed direct play from legacy components and it's still broken, try going to My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\Accts\Singleplayer and deleting the restart.fl file.

The game crashed. I could see the wallpaper for a few seconds and then nothing. Also there was no restart.fl files in that directory so I just decided to delete all of the save games and who would've thought....it works now. I know it wasn't really what you meant but still: Thank you

Here is another solution.

Let me tell you my problem first. İ download no-cd 1,0 version to play SP firstly and it worked smoothly.
I played smoothly until mission 9. After I decided to try the multiplayer version, the game did not generate multiplayer ID. After this happened i started to lookin for solution for Multiplayer id. İ downloaded a few iso versions, one repack version and finaly discovery version. İ set up all that version. And played repack version a bit. After played onether set up game (repack version) and closed down i couldent open the game again. the game was starting but crashing after the intro.

I did all the suggestions but it didn't work. İ uninstalled and remove all version and tried again no-cd version. Unfortunately the problem persisted.

When I checked to make sure that I deleted the game's extensions, I noticed that there is something strange about the folder where the save files are located.( C:\Users\.....\Documents\My Games )
I permanently deleted that folder and try again no cd version and it ran. After game ran i clicked new game and the game generated automaticly new save file at same location.
I've already storage save files elsewhere. I can now continue my duties as of 9 (SP)

sorry for bad grammer.

[+]Detailed written instructions
1.1 - Your PC must be running the latest MICROSOFT .NET FRAMEWORK in order for the mod installer to work. Please download the latest version HERE.

1.2 - Please make sure your drivers are up to date. You can use free software such as CPU-Z to detect your hardware.

1.3 - Windows 10 users must additionally enable THESE FEATURES for the game to work correctly.

1.4 - Install the base Freelancer game from your CD or from an ISO file you can download HERE as a direct link or HERE as a torrent link (RECOMMENDED). Pre-Windows 10 users can install ISO files by using third party programs such as VIRTUAL CLONE DRIVE - Windows 10 users should be able to do this natively.

1.5 - The default installation folder should be under "?:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Freelancer" if you used a custom installation destination, make note of it as you will need to reference it during the mod installation.

1.6 - After installing the base game, it will have placed the game shortcut on your folder. You can delete it as it will not be used to launch the mod and the mod will overwrite the base game files anyway.

1.7 - After completing the installation, download the latest version of the Discovery Freelancer Mod from THIS LINK.

1.8 - Before launching the installer, temporarily disable your Antivirus as the anticheat mechanism used by Discovery may result in a false-positive detection and interfere with the installation process.

1.9 - Run the mod installer as an administrator and follow the instructions.

1.10 - The installer will prompt you to enter the location of your original Freelancer installation folder. Enter the location you took note of in step 1.5 as described above.

1.11 - After clicking NEXT, you will be prompted to choose additional components. The BLOOM EFFECT is a visual modification and may be enabled/disabled after installation ingame.

WARNING: THE BLOOM MOD PRODUCES A FLASHING SIDEEFFECT DURING THE GAME LAUNCH INTRO. IF YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM SEIZURES, DO NOT ENABLE BLOOM EFFECT!

1.12 - After clicking NEXT, you will be prompted to choose a destination folder for Discovery Mod. This folder must be separate from the base folder, such as "C:\Games"
DO NOT SELECT YOUR ORIGINAL FREELANCER FOLDER AS DESTINATION, IT WILL CORRUPT THE INSTALL!

1.13 - After clicking NEXT the mod will install itself under your chosen folder. After the installation process is complete, navigate yourself to the Discovery Freelancer Mod folder and locate the "DSLauncher.EXE" and create a desktop shortcut.

1.14 - The Discovery Mod can only be launched through this launcher. If you will launch the game via FREELANCER.EXE, you will not be able to connect to the multiplayer server.

1.15 - Within the launcher you can set the resolution and miscellaneous parameters of your game. It also will allow you to have multiple accounts as the maximum ship count per account is 7.

1.16 - Before joining the server, read and memorize the server rules. If you have any further questions - the HELP SECTION of our forums are open for all inquiries.

I will try follow your help links, wish me luck

Oh well yes, I had done your suggestions but had't worked.

Send us your window specs

here's an instruction how to save. use option one or two

I'm slightly wondering because of your video card. Perhaps your PC doesn't meet requirements.

Link to how send specs

Hmm if you have advanced video card, then it's more curious. Be sure to have proper drivers installed for it.
Nvidia Thing installed to your pc

by the way, Perhaps it's possible that Freelancer can't open your Screen Resolution, try to make it working in different ones, 4:3 types. Hmm but my brother had it working in 16:9. Perhaps too great resolution? Try decreasing resolution to less one.

All right. You can also check log file, perhaps it has written something useful there, when you crashed. Or may be there's another log file that has more detailed info.
