Background….Prior to this I own a Nexus 7 1st gen and also just purchased the Asus Memo Pad 7(2014 red edition) shortly after the purchase of this Acer A1-830 and will be comparing this tablet to those!
Youve probably been looking at this Acer A1-830 and the Asus Memo pad 7 (android tablets) going back and forth trying to make a decision and hopefully I will help you!
Prices on both are very competitive and each has its own cons and pros depending on what YOURE looking for!
“Pros” The tablet LOOKS and feels great in your hand! It is light ,but not flimsy (by no means) and it has a grey/silver metal looking (but i think its plastic) back casing and the back and the size of the tablet are comparable to the Ipad mini’s design!
The screens resolution: Its not as good as the Asus Memo 7 which is bighter and shows blacks deeper but the Acer A1 830 is BIGGER!!! If you turn the Asus memo sideways and put it over the top of the Acer A1 830 it can almost fit two (2) Asus Memo pads side by side on top! This tablet is considerably larger (that is good or bad depending on how you want to use it)
The screen like many screens picks up finger prints unless you buy a screen protector but prints wipe off with a fiber cloth fairly easy! This is ANY TABLET SCREEN! So expect this with what ever tablet you buy!
Speed: Its pretty fast! Faster than my Nexus 1st gen (as it should be) but not as fast as the Asus memo pad 7 (2014 edition) The Asus is VERY VERY VERY fast! This Acer is not slow by any means but you can tell that its a tad slower than the new Asus Memo pad 7!
Touch screen response: It isnt as SENSITIVE as the Nexus or the Memo pad and unlike the Nexus AND the Memo Pad there are some apps that use the whole screen and you can NOT swipe down from the top to see your battery level or notifications. Instead you have to minimize the app that youre using to pull that top (notifications) screen down which is NOT convenient. The Nexus 7 (1st gen) and the Asus Memo pad do NOT have this issue as youre able to interact with the drop down notification screen regardless of what app youre using!
Also at times I have to touch the minimize screen a couple of times before it seems to register my touch. Minor issue but noticeable!
Battery Life: I have run this tablet every day ,24 hours a day for OVER A MONTH! Yes 24 7 with the exception of the battery running out on 4 occasions (completely dead) and was able to recharge it WITH NO problems or issues! It has run with the lowest brightness setting continuously playing videos for 8 hours + which is GREAT!!!!!!!
That said…. The new Asus Memo Pad runs LONGER! I have not done a test of how many hours it runs but I will and post when I write my review (as I bought both of these tablets through Amazon/Verified)but I will say the other day I had both at 100% charge and when the Acer was at 21% the Asus was at 40% battery (running the same app/video without any interruptions)
Speakers: Both this Acer and the Asus have stereo speakers and are both satisfactory, but the Asus seems to be a bit louder than this Acer. Not noticeably louder but it IS louder.
Interface: Both are similar but Asus IMO is better, smoother and has some additional perks!
Price: This is a little older than the Asus memo pad 7 (couple of months) and its cheaper (approximately $15 to $20 cheaper) Yet Amazon had an offer for FREE movie tickets when you purchase this tablet (I dont know if thats still available) And Asus is giving some free music downloads away as part of the purchase of the Memo Pad!
Aesthetics: They both are different! The sizes, the materials the colors available (both available in white though) I personally am torn between the 2 when it comes to looks! I actually like both of them very much! One I can fit in my pocket(Asus) the other I cant (This Acer)
Camera: To be honest……I dont care!(sorry people) 🙁 I havnt used the Asus’s cam but the Acer Camera is satisfactory, especially in the light (none of them have a flash though)
Wifi: Never lost a signal with any of my tablets!!!!!!!!
Verdict: If you like size its the Acer iconia A1 830! Speed? Asus memo pad 7! If youre looking to throw this in a pocket the Asus.(memo pad is tiny smaller than the Nexus though both 7 inches) You like the design and aspect ratio of the Ipad Mini on an Android tablet? Acer! (it is a nice looking tablet)
For an extra $20 bucks you lose about an inch of screen and gain speed and screen resolution with the Asus Memo. BUT THE SCREEN ON THIS TABLET (though not as good as the Asus) IS ABSOLUTELY FINE! THEY ALLL (android/tablets) basically do the same thing but some are tenths of a second faster!
I say…If you like the way this tablet looks(its very nice) its size and color dont shy away form it, its a great tablet you wont be disappointed but like most things in life there are better/newer ones and just because something is “better” or works better for one person doesnt mean its better or works for YOU!
Last but not least YOU WONT FIND MANY IF ANY ANDROID TABLETS THIS SIZE this maybe the ONLY ONE!!!!

At first I liked these tablets. I bought two for my kids. But the tablets have a charging problem.
I have sent one back twice, and the second one three times. At present, I can’t get either one to charge. I have tried it with cables from Acer, I have tried it with over dozen cables. I thought it was just the charging ports, but one time I finally got it to come up…and it still had 70% battery. I’d wager there is some motherboard charging/wake up issue.Who knows…
Every time I send it, they return it exclaiming no problem was found. Just needed a deep charge. So frustrating, as I’ve had them on the charger for days.I’ve bought brand new charging cables.Tested them with my other devices (I have an app for my Samsung devices that shows me the actual current coming in, so I can verify the cables are working.) Nothing.
My pour 6 year old son has been without his tablet 65% of the year he’s owned it…you can imagine how frustrating that is. Anyways, this week, for the price I paid for these two tablets, I bought 6 Kindle Fire’s.Hopefully, I’ll have a better experience.
And Acer, you’re dumb. I am not some neophyte who doesn’t know how to charge a device. If I have cables and can charge 20+ other micoUSB devices, everything BUT your tablets. Something is wrong. As for skill level? I’ve replaced screens on my phones, I’ve replaced charging ports, I’ve disassembled and re-assembled my laptop. So please….
I am tired of paying good money and companies not standing by their product. So guess what, Acer, you’ve lost a customer. And rest assured, I won’t recommend your brand to friends and family in the future. (And since I am the one most of my friends and family ask about new PCs, that’s probably about 40 purchases you’ve lost.)

First Impressions: The Acer A1-830 is very stylish looking tablet and at first glance, it resembles that if an iPad Mini. The tablet is gorgeously sleek and not overbearing in weight. It has a very crisp screen, with vivid colors that will rival any high-end tablet. At 7.9 inches, I was worried that it would feel a little clunky in my hands but upon using it for a few days, feels just as comfortable to use as a 7-inch tablet. One of the major things I’ve notice about this tablet is that it can get very loud, which is a huge plus as my last tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3) didn’t get loud nearly enough to hear YouTube videos.Upon it’s arrival, it was pre-loaded with Android’s Jelly Bean-OS but it’s able to be upgraded to the latest version of Android’s Kit Kat-OS.The tablet runs fairly smooth as I haven’t experienced any lag while playing games, watching Netflix or browsing the web. That was an initial concern of mine because I was actually looking for a quad-core tablet before I purchased this…this is dual-core.The tablet comes pre-loaded with a bunch of Acer goodies to use as you please as well as the Google Play & Amazon App stores. The battery life on the tablet is decent as I’ve been able to get a day+ out of it on a single charge…and that’s after using Netflix, playing a few games and checking e-mal.The tablet also takes pretty decent pictures with the back camera, the front camera is just as good as you would expect a front camera from a cell-phone or tablet to be.
Con’s ——–Only 16GB (not that much of a problem for most, but I have TONS of music & videos) ——–Dual Core (Again, not that much of a problem) ——–Battery Life (While it’s decent, it couldn’t hurt if you could get a little longer use out of it)

Well after going through a Dell Streak 7 for a year and having to replace it 4 times I finally gave up on it and paid the 15% restocking fee Dell charged me and went looking for a replacement. I was between this and the Google 7 but there were things I did not like about the 7 so I went with this and paid a bit more. Here is why you should and should not buy this Tablet.
Good: -HDMI out. it outputs 720p and you will need an AUX jack for audio. Great as a Netflix hub or for watching you kids when they are using it. -Memory slot. You can not live without a memory slot. All those apps will fill up fast and its better to pay for the feature vs paying $100 for a higher storage version. -Processor. This thing has a 4 core Tegra 3 @ 1.2 Ghz. Its not the fastet out there but it is plenty fast and last you several years.
Bad: -The camera. That thing is a joke, it is basically for skpye you will not be able to use it for anything else. How can you when its a front facing with no flash and you can't see what your shooting unless your in front of it. Apps that use the camera may not even detect it! -Single Speaker. It makes little difference because you can use a good headset but its loud enough. -Acer. Let be honest. Acer is known to be a budget/cheap company. To speak to anyone on the phone you will need a serial number from the service tag. The last Acer laptop I had literally fell apart. I assume you will have to pay for your shipping to and fro when you need service (Dell paid all my shipping) and except for the small update to the software that came out with it I do not see Acer updating their software unlike Sony (wife phone shipped with Android 2.3 and got 4.0 and 4.1 update that's nice!) -Plasticy feel. I got a pretty good case so I do not touch it as much.
Lastly, the big thing a lot of people question is the screen resolution. Its not as high as the other $200 tablets but I would just ignore that because it is fine for what you are going to use it for and the Tegra 3 scales the ratio very well so you do not have malformed content.
It is my first "real" Android tablet.Don't complain about this if you haven't used a Craig 7" tablet with its 800 x 480 display, 256MB of RAM and pokey processor.
The screen images are sharp and clear. My Kindle books work fine.GPS is fun.Youtube works.
It charges while plugged via USB into my computer!I'm not an app whore, I use this mainly for Kindle, e-mail and simple web browsing.
This is a fast tablet with a great looking screen.I have it wrapped in a
Forthe price of 199, this tablet is very nice: it boast a powerful tegra 3 CPU, 1gb DDR3 of ram wich is very cool, I was kind of worry for the often mentioned 1024x600 low resolution, but I find it to be not that bad, I mean it is a 7" screen, is not like you are watching a 42" tv with that resolution.THAT look ugly, but not in this case; of course I would have like it to have a retina display but no complains here. Overall the thing works very fast, internet conection works fine, I'm having a blast playing a lot of games, the only thing it's the sound, I can not turn it all the way up as it some times make a ugly noise, AND the battery does not last what advertised but aside of this I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TABLET TO LOW BUDGET PPL LIKE ME, LOL.
EDIT: I Found out that battery life does last what advertised, I left the thing on full brightness always on, playing music and with animation on screen. It took 48% out 100% in 3hrs 25min, so my guess is it would take 100% of battery in 7hrs. That's what ACER says it would take on normal use.

It was always a bit glitchy, GPS never worked well. This was a gift and it wasn't used very often so it was overlooked. Then it stopped charging! Acer customer service is horrible! The tablet was under warranty and they wanted us to pay for shipping so they could fix it. We did not pay and got them to send us a shipping label, then when it came back they said they fixed it. Charged once then never again! Called again, they sent us a new charger. Again charged once and never again! Never buying an Acer product ever again. Not to mention they had the tablet registered to someone else purchased 5 months earlier, so we almost had a problem with the warranty timeframe....
I've heard about the Acer Iconia from a nephew so I choose this model for my first device of this kind. The Good: I like the price. The Tablet works very good and have a very nice design.Due to it's processor the speed is very good.Color and graphics display are sharp and fast.I've installed a 32 GB flash memory to increase it's storage capacity. The ACER chat service solving questions or technical issues is very good. The HDMI output works very good with my TV, great for HD movies. The BAD: Need a back side camera, the USB port is not good to connect a Flash Memory for a file transfer. Can't connect it to the WiFi hotspot of an iPhone 5.

I wanted an Andriod tablet but couldn't justify getting one, until a recent flight home. I travel frequently and like to watch videos on my laptop to pass the time. That's fine in the airport, and if I can get an exit row seat. On this trip home I wasn't so lucky; trying to watch videos on the plane was cumbersome. I finally talked myself into getting a tablet and picked the A500.
I don't care for Apple products because they are too restrictive. This has nothing to do with the current iOS; their products have always been that way because that's part of their marketing strategy. Apple's products force you to use Apple services, like iTunes.
I had been comparing the different Andriod tablets out of curiosity, and this one was the best in my opinion. There are a number with 10.1" screens that are almost identical in performance and core features, but the Acer Iconia tablets stands out. I like that is has a micro-HDMI port, a micro-SD slot, a micro-USB slave port, and a full sized USB host port for connecting external devices. I bought the 16GB tablet and installed a 32GB micro-SD in it, and copied media directly onto it from my laptop. I bought a Verbatim 16GB USB flash drive for it that is so small I can leave it plugged in. I tried plugging in a 120GB hard drive and it read that, too!
My strategy is to put media onto the micro-SD card that I want to keep on the tablet (like pictures), and use my 16GB USB flash drive for media that I will delete after enjoying (podcasts & videos).
I got a nice wallet for it, and also some screen protectors. I highly recommend the wallet, but not the screen protector. The A500's glass screen is so easy to clean with the included microfiber cloth. Not so now with the screen protector installed.
Fantastic tablet. Exceeds all my expectations. Several of my friends have iPads, and they've tried to tell me its just an iPad wannabe. Apple didn't invent the tablet (although they're suing Samsung as if they did). Its a tablet with much more functionality than the iPad. The fact that it has USB support, mini-USB, Flash, SD Card , and HDMI port sets it on a league of it own. Yes, its a little heavier, but it has a full HD screen and all those ports, its a worthy sacrifice. I give Apple credit for their IOS interface, its clean and consistent, more dummy proof than the Android OS. The freedom to choose how you access programs in Android is a nice feature, specially for techies who like to customize their desktops. One way I sum it up is, iPads are for non-techies. I'd want my mom to have an iPad. I'm doing things with my Android that the iPad could probably do, but Apple doesn't allow it. I'm not tied to iTunes, or any desktop application for that matter. Android="your way", Apple="their way" .
I bought the Acer A500 from Amazon two months ago and couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.I was a happy Kindle owner before, but felt as many people have that it is yet one more single-purpose device that takes up space. On my work trips I'm often in the plane for 3+ hours and like to mix up reading with watching video, which the Kindle was not able to offer me.
I was looking at the tablet options at the time and to say that there were slim pickings is an understatement. What also was disconcerting is the trend of tablets to not offer external drives for additional memory. With only 16GB and 32GB options I was not happy with any onboard memory limits of any tablet.Books may not take up much memory, but video files do and I don't always have access to a wifi hotspot to stream content.I also was unwilling to pay additional funds for a 3G or 4G monthly limited data plans on top of my cell phone and home internet monthly charges.
I was holding out for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab until I discovered it wouldn't have any capacity for additional memory. Therefore, I was left with the Motorola Xoom, Asus Transformer and the Acer A500.The Xoom didn't have a functioning microSD card at the time I was looking (and was expensive) so it left the Asus and Acer. The only reason I chose the Acer is that I liked the brushed metal back; otherwise, they appear to be very similar.
It appeared to me that the biggest problem professional reviewer at sites like CNET had against the A500 is its bulk and weight.Maybe I'm stronger than the average person using a tablet, but I routinely hold it one handed for extended periods of time and don't feel that it's burdensome.Sure the Kindle's weight can't be beat by any tablet, but it also can't play video or easily surf the internet.
Performance is smooth, fast, and responsive. The web browser is great and I have no trouble accessing any sites.I've downloaded Moboplayer and use Lumniread to access my content.Oh and Google Music's cloud service is phenomenal.I can go out to my back yard and stream all of my music easily from the tablet.I picked up two 16GB microSD cards and have ample room for videos I carry around with me.The only downside is accessing the microSD cards is not intuitive and you have to hunt and peck to find the right directory.
Since then I have two friends that also have bought the same tablet and they love it.Great price for a lot of value.

This tablet is one of the best kept secrets of its time, and even now. It has a FULL SIZED usb port which means you can plug your flash drives, or an external hard drive to it. I am an IT professional and I needed a tablet. My choices at the time were Android or iPad and I chose the Acer A500. With a 32GB microSD card inserted, you can carry around a library of more than 1000 books, or a small array of HD movies, or a few thousand songs. The screen resolution is great, and if you root the tablet you can do even more. I am running Ice Cream Sandwich on mine, and I get about 5 hours of use out of it. I would get a new one or a refurb which is certified. For a while, this was the device which I used to feed my HDTV a picture (with the mini HDMI port from the A500). You can pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to it and use it as a computer.
WARNING: Do NOT buy the "dock" for this unit. It is utterly useless, does not pass many of the functions of the tablet through it and does not even charge the thing. USELESS. But the tablet blows away many of the newest tablets available today. Well worth this price.
