The reason for the 4 is that it took having 3 different computers sent to me before I received one that was not defective. Customer Service from Amazon was great. They were very understanding and even shipped the 3rd one next day air at their expense. Having said that, I am very happy with my Ultrabook. I did have a problem with the screen keyboard popping up when it should not. I contacted Dell and they fixed the problem in a timely manner. (I used their customer chat option because the phone number was always busy). It love it's weight. I had an ASUS tablet but was having some problems so decided if I was going with something new I wanted a computer. Our son has this computer and that is why I bought it. I can use it as a tablet but it still has all the computer capabilities. My first experience with Window 8, but unlike a lot of people I had no problem going from 7 to 8. I did download 8.1 at my sons advise. I think it's a good product now that I have one that is not defective. That does worry me some though. I am hoping I don't have problems in the future.

Jan 18, 2014 - I am writing this 1 week after the first review. Yesterday I started experiencing the problem with the screen keyboard again popping up when it was not supposed to. After further investigation I discovered it is a Google Chrome issue. I can use another browser or go into any of my apps and I do not have any problems. It only happens in Google Chrome. I uninstalled the Google Chrome program and reinstalled and it continues to pop up. I can't necessarily blame this on the Ultrabook. I was to the point I considered returning it and getting a refund. I hated to do that because I really do like the computer/tablet capabilities. I love the size and weight also. So I am relieved it is not the computer but I am now using both Google Chrome (which I like because of the syncing capabilities) and Internet Explorer. To me it is just a bump in the road to someone else it could be a very big issue so that I why I even bothered to write about it.

1/5/2020: Update to my review from four years ago. My daughter is now a senior in college, and she is still using this laptop! I replaced the battery and charger in 2017 after the battery had greatly reduced runtime and the charger was flaky with probably a broken wire in the cord.Been running great ever since.We also used the Dell battery saving setting to keep the battery from charging to 100% if it is kept plugged in all the time, and that seems to help prevent the battery from getting worse so quickly.

Also did the free upgrade to Windows 10 4-5 years ago, too. Would have waited if it was Win 7, but upgrading from the disaster that was Win 8 was a no brainer.

She doesn't save photos or anything large on it (keeps those on her phone, like most kids...) so the 128MB drive has been sufficient, amazingly.She doesn't really use it as a tablet, though.But there was no way to know that in advance.

Anyway, I can't say enough positive about a 6-year old laptop that is still being used daily.

My daughter has been using this for nearly two years.Love it.No issues at all.Long battery life.Solid build.Very stable and typically only needs to be rebooted monthly after the usual MS security patches install.

My only con would be that the small screen in HD resolution makes text small for those of us who are older.But it isn't my PC.I asked my teen, and she'd never noticed it being small.Hard drive could be small depending on what you use it for.But my daughter doesn't do much video, and so far the 128GB drive is about 75% full.

My husband purchased this for me and I love it.The only reason I have deducted a star is that the touch screen freezes on occasion (this happened within the first couple of days).I like that this is highly portable, that it converts easily to a tablet, and that the keyboard is back-lit.I don't like that there is no SD slot, no HDMI, and on occasion it would be nice to have a BDROM.There are 2 USB ports, and external volume control.No Microsoft office programs are included, so if you will need those, plan on purchasing it separately.As far as the touch screen freezing, I have found that taking the "live" buttons and changing them to regular buttons uses less memory (or whatever is causing it to freeze) thus significantly reducing my trouble with the touch screen.It has only happened once since I did this, and a restart of the computer did the trick.Obviously this should not be an issue at all, but I love the functionality of this product so much that if it doesn't act up any more, I am willing to not have "live" touch buttons.

I have 3 of these in my house currently. This is a great little laptop/tablet. I havent found any issues with speed, response time or the touchscreen. I have one that is 2 yrs old and it does have a burn effect on the screen whenever i access facebook games. my friends that are below my games stay like a shadow on my keyboard when it pops up, but it doesnt stay on the screen at any other time. I dont know if its the facebook applications or the computer that makes it do that. otherwise its a great laptop and i can recommend it to anyone. I purchased it from the amazon warehouse, i was a little leary of ordering a used computer,but there isnt anything wrong with it at all.

I absolutely love this computer!It is everything I want in a computer.I love having the option to convert this computer into a notebook whenever I need it.The keyboard is awesome and allows me to type very fast.I only have one issue with this computer and that is the wireless function.It sometimes drops the wireless connection.I am hoping I will find a way to resolve this.Other than that, this computer gets a thumbs up from me.The seller shipped it very quickly and I was amazed at the speed in which I received it.It totally looked new and had a seal showing it was refurbished.I couldn't tell that this was not a brand new computer.I would certainly purchase from this seller again.
