There should be a list of some kind on forums if anything. If one wants to see updated stats they may use FlStat instead. I personally think that running the wiki is a unnecessary task at all.
That was a rather interessting question/suggestion here. Even if it sounds harsh. Let's discuss again. Do we need the wiki at all. Do we need parts of it?
Well. I kinda agree with this one, when it comes to Equipment. FLStat is the best choice here. The rest of the Wiki is fine. Pictures of ships/planets/stations/systems (unlike the rather useless gun pages with pictures for example) are a nice wiki feature. Especially for new players. And even for veterans. I also think that the Player Characters section is still a popular section.
Another plus for the wiki is: You can easily access it via a smartphone or from a PC without FLStat. I for one. often use my Phone or a PC without FLStat when i am not at home.
I'd keep the Wiki as an archive as many people posted RP stuff there. I sometimes just open up random pages and see old systems, old characters with indepth RP pages and I think it'd be a shame if we lost that. As for the equipment, I think a web app would be cool and the Wiki should just have non-specific pages on equipment with links to that web app. Alternatively, I know there are tools to have wiki pages generate and update pages automatically via script. Starbound Frackin' Universe Wiki does that, apparently.
Even if it’s outdated, I feel like it’s value is that it shows new players what is included in Discovery in a format that is familiar and way more intuitive then the forums, which can be overwhelming to new players.
It’s also useful to check old faction pages and work through how to Roleplay a character with a certain ID.
I still look at the wiki all the time to get a general feel for things in game that I’m unsure about.
The wiki is very good for lore, which FLstat can't convey in any way, and it's also a fantastic visual reference for ships and the like. A lot of what I use the wiki for is comparing the different ships and their aesthetics, since I don't always want to fly things solely based on their stats.
