Welcome to Tokelau Smelter, a cutting-edge facility located within the planetary ring of Tuvalu in Omicron Delta. Tokelau Smelter is dedicated to the processing and purification of Iridium, a precious metal renowned for its exceptional strength and resistance to corrosion. The base also serves as an HQ for Orex Industries.
About Tokelau Smelter:
Constructed in 834 AS. by Luis Zavala and his team, Tokelau Smelter started out small. Zavala decided to leave the Omegas where he made his name and fortune by operating a large Silver processing facility. As the price of Silver plummeted, he chose to invest instead of retiring. What caught his eye was, what he thought was a great opportunity - Iridium. This metal, in its ore formation, can only be found in the Omicron Delta - a rather dangerous system, avoided by many.
In early 834, Omicron Delta had no Iridium refinery, so getting this rare metal was rough. What many would consider risky or even inconceivable, Zavala followed his gut and decided that his investment - the construction of Tokelau Smelter was the right move, which later proved to be correct.
Tokelau started small; a medium-sized refinery, a few storage modules, and a housing space were enough for its launch. This wasn't only beneficial to Zavala, but also for the Zoner population. Tokelau offered jobs, employing many people from Planet Pygar, Freeport 11, and specifically those who fled Planet Gran Canaria, looking for stable income. The workers were provided with housing onboard the station.
The beginning was rough, the workers and crewmembers worked tirelessly to ensure the steady flow of Iridium. What wasn't difficult was finding buyers for the refined product. The demand was enormous, which led to Tokelau's expansion in March 834. Three more storage units were constructed, increasing the station's capacity for Iridium.
Today, Orex Industries is the main Iridium exporter in Sirius, with sales that cross the half million unit mark each month.
We've updated the Import & Export price list. We also encourage all available miners to go out there and mine Iridium ore, as we offer 70 credits per unit of ore delivered to our station.
