Good day to all of you!
It has been some time since I reached out to see how our close Freelancer neighbours downspin are doing! I trust the new controls now respond with ease and your base is now in tip-top shape!
We've been busy upgrading our base in Shikoku as well, finally getting our Core upgrade finished with outside help from Universal Shipping, DHC, and Interspace Commerce transports all working together. But that doesn't mean the work is over! *laughs*
I hope things are doing great in your system and I hope you remember my previous declaration when we were running into each other every cargo trip... if you need anything at all... just ask and help with be provided! We freelancer types need to stick together, even if we run separate ventures.
Here's to Sanctuary - hope to visit again soon and pick up some of that great Whiskey you keep stocking up on!

Nice to hear from you again. Our ships have been visiting both of your bases regularly with base construction materials and food, water and oxygen, if required. We pick up your very lucrative ore in Shikoku and take it into Zurich, which links in nicely with visiting your New Berlin base and then back to Galileo.
We are coming to terms with the administration and promotion of a base, but we have some way to go before being proficient.
The whiskey involves a long interesting trip but it is worth it if it keeps friends and neighbours happy!

An update on progress over the past 2 months
Part 1
Having found the base unoccupied and with just 6 million hit points it was vital to rapidly recruit crew and deliver food, water and oxygen together with materials to complete base construction.
We needed funds and ships and a benefactor provided the former from the mining of Sci Data. We knew that my cousin Sorairo_Aozora was looking to leave the GC base at Ainu and could pilot a transport if it was provided. We procured 2 Grendel transports in Rhineland. Strong, fast and generally good at avoiding trouble.
Sorairo and I were able to keep the base supplied to keep construction and repairs going 24 hours a day. It was not easy as we also needed to start stocking the base with drinks and food for potential customers.
We had some luck in that when I was accompanying Sorairo's very good friend, Fantasma_Azul, in his Battlecruiser on patrol close to the Osaka wreck we observed a Kusari Battleship destroy what we later discovered was an AI Cruiser. I docked onto the Battlecruiser and we went to look at the wreckage. We searched for anything that might be useful for the base and found an AI pilot pod. We loaded it into the ship and rapidly headed for Galileo.
On the way we discussed our options. We did not have the expertise on Sanctuary to safely open the pod. However, we were friendly with the Lane Hackers on Leiden Base and they were ex-Ageira with lots of talented individuals. Whatever they would charge was worth it if we got a programmed AI pilot. We would source another Grendel as soon as possible.

Part 2
Fantasma_Azul and I enjoyed our short time on Leiden Base taking advantage of the Lane Hackers hospitality. They worked quickly but efficiently and informed us that the AI had markings on various parts reading PJ-888. That would become its name from this point forward. It needed the addition of a programmable language module or it would utter 'Hi Hi' forever! The hackers estimated it would take another few days to complete and test the AI but could not complete the task until we supplied a ship. Understandably they didn't wish to risk one of theirs in the dark matter cloud surrounding this base. We needed to hurry the purchase of another Grendel.
We headed back to Sanctuary the next evening and were delighted to find that our friends had not only progressed with hull repairs, stocking food, water and oxygen but had also made sure that the defence modules, and most importantly , the shields were fully operational. These had been operationally tested when an unfortunate pilot attempted to dock to escape a group of GCs. I don't know his allegiance but the base recognised a hostile and reacted accordingly.
It was agreed by all that Fantasma_Azul be appointed Security Executive for Sanctuary.

Part 3
I briefed my colleagues with regard to the repairs and modifications to the AI, PJ-888, being carried out at Leiden Base. They agreed that it was worth the expense if it brought us a very competent pilot who would know about areas of Sirius that we had never visited. Who knew what riches might lie in the Omicrons beyond Zeta and Delta. We would contact the Lane Hackers for an update on progress tomorrow and then source a ship.
An increase in our storage capacity was discussed and agreed. We had been successful with our trading activity and had accumulated the necessary credits. However, we were going to have to temporarily reduce storage of consumables for customers to create space for the storage upgrade materials. A lot would be required. This would need to be carefully planned to limit disruption. I would visit the bases close to us in Galileo and discuss our plans and listen to any suggestions.

The last 5 days have seen hectic activity at Sanctuary. The Grendel transports have been replaced with Zoner produced Peregrine transports for reasons of security. We had a few 'incidents' when in transit through Liberty as some LNF pilots confused the Grendel ships with military vessels although they were not fitted with cruise disruptors. Maybe the look and shape of the ship was the problem. The Peregrines carry a bit more cargo and are just as fast and manoeuvrable. They are much preferred by our pilots.
The 3 ships worked tirelessly for 36 hours to bring in the commodities required for the storage upgrade. This is now complete and we have restocked the base shop and bar with the following:
By the time you read this update we should have beers on the base as well.
PJ-888, our AI pilot, is proving a real asset. Its language module is amazing and it has stored so many words in all languages. It is a particular favourite of GC pilots, maybe because it loves to stop and talk and knows that gifts are always welcomed!

It has been a while since my last report. Having completed the extra storage we found that we needed to work continuously to restock Sanctuary. As soon as some commodities were stocked they were sold on to our regular trading partners.
We convened a meeting of all Sanctuary based crew and discussed the issue in detail. We decided there were 2 options: (1) upgrade to Core 3; (2) construct another Core 2 base adjacent to Sanctuary.
As we intend to remain a trading base with no intention of venturing into manufacturing the second option has the most appeal. It will allow us to continue to restock Sanctuary whilst starting construction of the second base. Yes construction will be slowed quite significantly, but we will continue to trade and service our customers.
We also considered the possibility of using the second base for non-recreational products such as Iridium (only available in Omicron Delta). There are many commodities that require long and comparatively dangerous trips, which we can and will undertake, because there is a profit for us and the subsequent buyer.
Decision made. We have started the construction of Haven immediately adjacent to Sanctuary. it's going to take a few weeks, but it will be worthwhile when completed.
Our benefactor Explorador, who is now quite old (74 earth years), has joined us. He has traded his beloved Civilian Explorer for a Peregrine (the weapons are interchangeable) and has brought his considerable experience to help us in this venture.
We wish all our friends safe skies and profitable trading.

It has been over a week since my last update for friends and customers. Sorry.
Explorador has proved invaluable in being able to get to the outer reaches of Sirius and keep Sanctuary stocked with trading commodities. He has also helped by programming his vast knowledge of Sirius into PJ-888, which has allowed PJ-888 to assist with transporting these commodities. This has allowed Sorairo_Aozora and myself to concentrate on ferrying construction materials for the Haven build. I anticipate that the completion of Core 1 will take another 2 days. We will discuss the next step within the group but I see 2 possible ways forward: construct more cargo storage or upgrade to Core 2. My personal preference is the former as it will allow us to accumulate the necessary construction materials for a Core upgrade.
Many thanks to all our friends for visiting Sanctuary and making our trading base a success.

I must apologise for the time that has passed since my last post. I hope you will understand as you read about the activity we have undertaken and the sad news that arrived 2 weeks ago just as I was about to complete and send this update.
Our group has spent some time discussing the way forward. Explorador who was born a Zoner on Gran Canaria explained that we had been living as Zoners without realising it. We are a diverse group of individuals, each having decided alone to reject the regulations imposed by House Space. We have adapted to become a trading community and all of us has started a new life here in Galileo. We have been careful to live peacefully with groups who live in or close to Galileo and have been able to call on their expertise as and when we needed assistance. The best example being the rebuild and programming of PJ-888, which would not have been possible without the Lane Hackers.
We all agreed that Haven would start life as a Zoner base and that Explorador would be the administrator. We constructed additional storage and started work on a defense platform to supplement the defenses of Sanctuary. Explorador decided he should take PJ-888 to Omega-48 and Omega-52 using a route avoiding Leeds where we had experienced some minor problems. Explorador was not going to be able to travel quite so far as often with his increased responsibilities.
Then tragedy. We received a message that when entering Dublin from Edinburgh, Explorador suffered a stroke. PJ-888 took action to stabilise him and diverted to the Poole jump hole, the Omega-48 jump hole and Gran Canaria, where he knew there were excellent Zoner health facilities.
Explorador is recuperating slowly on Gran Canaria, where he has a home and people to look after him. He is unlikely ever to pilot a ship again but we hope he will be able to visit us on occasion by accompanying PJ-888 when he is trading in Gran Canaria or adjacent systems.
Back at base we have started to rationalise Sanctuary and Haven. The former will concentrate on foodstuff and drinks. Haven will primarily trade in hard to find ores and precious metals, etc. We will almost certainly refine this in light of experience gained as time progresses.
