I purchased this laptop on January 6th and aside from one problem I have to say I'm very happy. The problem I encountered was that when you closed the lid and put the laptop to sleep the WI-FI when you opened the lid was disabled.I posted a question whether or not anyone else had encountered this issue and the answer was none.I tried deleting the driver and reinstalling and it only lasted a day or two. I eventually went to the Intel sight and there I found a driver update for this machine one for Wi-FI and the other for Bluetooth.The link for Wi-Fiis as follows:
Since installing the updated driver I have not experienced the issue again my problem may have been since I’m running a 100MB connection.This is not unusual so I can’t blame HP although their site for downloads doesn’t have this update available.I have to admit that I’m a retired IT executive and that this is one of the best laptops I have encountered in my research for a state-of-the-art machine.I have to say that the touch pad is ultra sensitive and takes quite a bit of getting used to and I have found that the extreme right and left corners perform the functions that one expects out of their mouse.Just be patient and you will find that you will adjust to the touch pad. This laptop has more than enough power, the keyboard as others have indicated is easy raised keyboard (plus backlit when/if you want it by pressing the F5 key without using the function key), graphics are great. The boot time is fantastic as reported, and the loading of applications is very fast.I have added my Windows8.1 Pro license software on this machine and couldn’t be happier.I am running Norton 360 and a quick scan takes only 1 minute which is extremely quick compared others.I have seen where people have complained about the screen resolution and I have no complaints and I have watched HD programs on it and it is 1080 and as clear as my Sony HD 1080i TV.Others have complained about the sound again the speakers are sufficient for a laptop computer those who complain must be looking for theatre quality as best I can ascertain.The price at Amazon is the best gong and since it is a laptop I personally recommend the extended warranty as I have used it over the years twice and have received new laptops when they encountered problems and they were picked out by me so each time it resulted in a laptop upgrade.I highly recommend this product if your looking for a great laptop!
Within two weeks of owning this laptop it broke! I turned it on one day and went to open a program (any program) and it would flip between the windows 8 tiles and the desktop every 2 seconds. I couldn't do anything on it. I contacted HP and they said the computer would need to be wiped and if that didn't work it would need to be replaced. Luckily I was able to save all my files on another computer over our home network before wiping it. I wiped it and returned it to amazon. I wasn't about to take any chances that it would happen again!
By the way, I hated Windows 8.1.
The good (while it worked): I liked the touch screen, the fingerprint scanner, and it was a pretty fast laptop.
The computer arrived on expected date and packaged correctly.The price was right for what I wanted in a computer.The touch screen was unnecessary in my case but the speed was good.The screen isn't as sharp and clear as my Toshiba Qosmio game laptop so I was a little disappointed in that. The extra software bundle that came with this HP, Cyberlink, was what sold me as I have that on my 3 other computers so that saved me $150. It's a great backup laptop for my Toshiba for all my work and video chat.Also a great laptop for my wife that is used to apps and touch screen.I myself, run Windows 8.1 from desktop mode. I read that people who are running Windows 8.1 will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 when it's released this summer.Hopefully that's true.
I have been using this computer for a few months now and have no problems with it.I have heard lots of stories about Windows 8 and it being hard to transition to but do not find that the case at all.I am not sure if it is the new Windows platform or the computer, but startup is very quick and everything seems to work well.The touchscreen works OK but I am still one of those old keyboard and mouse type people.From what I have seen, I am sure that if someone wants to use the touchscreen they would have no problem. Shipping was quick and packaging was as expected for the item.

We wanted something that was going to be powerful, yet last for years as we do not have funds to do so. This is touch screen, it comes with a powerful processor and the resolution is perfect for picture editing. We feel comfortable that it will have enough information to store for years to come. We're happy with this product so far.

Enough power, easy raised keyboard (plus backlit when/if you want it), graphics are great.The boot time is fantastic.Loading applications and using them is very fast.
There are enough applications loaded out of the box to get you where you want to go but not too many (like a box stores load).
Windows 8 is what it is but HP has given enough options to where you can use the desktop on boot without having to search the web for boot options and such.
I am very happy with the speed of this laptop and would suggest it if you are a speed freak - I'm not a gamer but it appears this would work as well as the comparable $2K gamer PC.
This was a replacement laptop. The first one that was sent was obviously used and had viruses as soon as I turned it on. Amazon quickly shipped a replacement and paid for the return shipping on the bad one. You can't ask for anything more than that. This HP laptop is as good as it sounds on paper. Great screen, fast, laid out well. I'm very happy.
